What gratitude do I not owe to Thee, my God! not only for having created me, redeemed me, and called me into Thy Church, but also for having waited for my return while I was wandering from Thee in the miserable paths of sin; for having so often pardoned me, as I hope Thou hast done this day, and for having preserved me from so many other sins, into which I would have fallen if Thy gracious hand had not preserved me. But my adversaries will not stop tempting me till I die, and if Thou doest not help me, alas! I shall soon begin to insult Thee more grievously than ever. So, by the merits of Jesus Christ, grant me the beautiful favor of final persistence. The Divine Saviour has promised that whatever we ask in His Name, He will grant us. I beseech Thee, therefore, by everything that Thy loving Son has endured for me, never to let me abandon Thee again. I am confident that if I continue to pray for this grace, I will receive it, because Thou has promised to hear our petitions. But I am terrified that, in an unguarded moment, I will forget my reliance on Thee, fail to seek Thy assistance, and thereby relapse into my past suffering. So, in all my temptations, grant that I may have rapid recourse to Thee by invoking the holy Names of Jesus and Mary. Thus, O my Lord, I can firmly hope to die in Thy favor, and to love Thee forever in paradise, where I will never be separated from Thee, and where I will be devoured in the fire of Thy holy love for all eternity.
Amen.
