Novena to the Divine Mercy

Day 1 of the Divine Mercy Novena

In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. – Amen.

“Bring ALL MANKIND TO ME TODAY, ESPECIALLY ALL SINNERS, and immerse them in the ocean of My mercy. You will console me in my bitter grief as a result of the loss of souls in this way.”

Most Merciful Jesus, whose very nature it is to have compassion on us and forgive us, look not at our sins but at our faith in Your infinite goodness. Accept us all into Your Most Compassionate Heart’s abode, and never let us leave. We beg You to do this through Your love, which connects You to the Father and the Holy Spirit.

Turn Your merciful gaze, Eternal Father, upon all mankind, especially poor sinners, all enfolded in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. Show us Your mercy for the sake of His sorrowful Passion, so that we may praise the omnipotence of Your mercy forever and ever.

Amen.

In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. – Amen.

Day 2 of the Divine Mercy Novena

In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. – Amen

“Bring to Me today THE SOULS OF PRIESTS AND RELIGIOUS, and immerse them in My incomprehensible mercy. They were the ones who gave me the strength to endure my arduous Passion. My mercy is poured out on mankind through them as if they were channels.”

Most Merciful Jesus, from whom all good comes, increase Your grace in men and women dedicated to Your service, that they may perform worthy works of mercy, and that all who see them may glorify the Father of Mercy who is in heaven.

Turn Your merciful gaze, Eternal Father, upon the company of Your chosen ones in Your vineyard—on the souls of priests and religious—and endow them with the strength of Your blessing. For the love of Your Son’s Heart, in which they are enfolded, impart to them Your power and light, that they may be able to guide others in the way of salvation and sing praise to Your boundless mercy with one voice for ages without end.

Amen.

In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. – Amen

Pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy.

Day 3 of the Divine Mercy Novena

In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. – Amen

“Bring ALL DEVOUT AND FAITHFUL SOULS TO ME TODAY, and immerse them in the ocean of My mercy. On the Way of the Cross, the souls brought me comfort. They were a drop of solace in the midst of an ocean of apathy.”

Most Merciful Jesus, from the treasury of Your mercy, You lavishly bestow Your graces on all. Accept us into Your Most Compassionate Heart’s abode and never let us leave. We beg You for this grace through Your wondrous love for the heavenly Father, which burns so brightly in Your Heart.

Turn Your merciful gaze, Eternal Father, to faithful souls as You would Your Son’s inheritance. Grant them Your blessing and surround them with Your constant protection for the sake of His sorrowful Passion. Thus, may they never fail in love or lose the treasure of the holy faith, but rather, with all the hosts of Angels and Saints, may they eternally glorify Your boundless mercy.

Amen.

In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. – Amen

Pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy.

Day 4 of the Divine Mercy Novena

In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. – Amen

“Bring to Me today those who do not believe in God and those who do not know who I am. During My agonizing Passion, I was also thinking of them, and their future zeal comforted My Heart. Immerse them in My mercy’s ocean.”

Jesus, most compassionate, You are the Light of the World. Accept the souls of those who do not believe in God and who do not yet know You into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart. Allow the rays of Your grace to enlighten them so that they, too, can extol Your wonderful mercy alongside us; and do not let them escape from the abode that is Your Most Compassionate Heart.

Turn Your merciful gaze, Eternal Father, upon the souls of those who do not believe in You and those who do not yet know You, but who are encased in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. Attract their attention to the light of the Gospel. These souls have no idea what a joy it is to love You. Grant that they, too, may extol Your mercy’s generosity for all eternity.

Amen.

In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. – Amen

Pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy.

Day 5 of the Divine Mercy Novena

In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. – Amen

“Bring to Me today THE SOULS OF THOSE WHO HAVE SEPARATED FROM MY CHURCH, and immerse them in the ocean of My mercy. They tore at My Body and Heart, that is, My Church, during My tumultuous Passion. My wounds heal as they return to unity with the Church, and this alleviates My Passion.”

Most Merciful Jesus, Goodness Itself, You do not turn away those who seek Your light. Accept the souls of those who have left Your Church into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart. Draw them into the unity of the Church by Your light, and do not let them escape from the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart; rather, bring them to glorify the generosity of Your mercy.

Turn Your merciful gaze, Eternal Father, upon the souls of those who have separated themselves from Your Son’s Church, who have squandered Your blessings and misused Your graces by stubbornly persisting in their errors. Look not at their flaws, but at Your own Son’s love and His agonizing Passion, which He endured for their sake, because they, too, are encased in His Most Compassionate Heart. Make it so that they, too, may glorify Your great mercy for all eternity.

Amen.

In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. – Amen

Pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy.

Day 6 of the Divine Mercy Novena

In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. – Amen

“Bring ME THE MEEK AND HUMBLE SOULS, AS WELL AS THE SOULS OF LITTLE CHILDREN, TODAY, and immerse them in My mercy. These souls are the most similar to My Heart. They were a source of comfort to me during my ordeal. I saw them as earthly Angels who would stand guard at My altars. I pour out torrents of grace on them. My grace is only available to the humble soul. With My assurance, I favor humble souls.”

Jesus, Most Merciful, “Learn from Me, for I am meek and humble of heart,” you said. Accept all meek and humble souls, as well as the souls of little children, into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart. These souls ecstasy all of heaven, and they are the heavenly Father’s favorites. They are a fragrant bouquet before God’s throne, and God delights in their fragrance. These souls have a permanent home in Your Most Compassionate Heart, O Jesus, and they sing a hymn of love and mercy without ceasing.

Turn Your merciful gaze, Eternal Father, upon meek souls, humble souls, and little children who are enfolded in the abode that is Jesus’ Most Compassionate Heart. These souls are the most similar to Your Son. Their fragrance rises from the earth and finds its way to Your throne. Father of mercy and all goodness, I beseech You, by the love You bear these souls and the delight You take in them, to bless the entire world, so that all souls together may sing out the praises of Your mercy for all eternity.

Amen.

In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. – Amen

Pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy.

Day 7 of the Divine Mercy Novena

In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. – Amen

“Bring to Me today THE SOULS WHO SPECIFICALLY VENERATE AND GLORIFY MY MERCY, and immerse them in My mercy. These souls wept the most over my Passion and were the most deeply immersed in My spirit. They are physical manifestations of My Compassionate Heart. In the next life, these souls will shine with a special light. None of them will perish in the fires of hell. At the hour of death, I will vigorously defend each of them.”

Most Merciful Jesus, whose Heart is Love Itself, receive the souls of those who extol and venerate the greatness of Your mercy into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart. These souls are endowed with the power of God Himself. They go forward, confident of Your mercy, in the midst of all afflictions and adversities; and united to You, O Jesus, they carry all mankind on their shoulders. These souls will not be harshly judged, but Your mercy will embrace them as they leave this life.

Turn Your merciful gaze, Eternal Father, upon the souls who glorify and venerate Your greatest attribute, that of Your boundless mercy, and who are encased in Jesus’ Most Compassionate Heart. These souls are a living Gospel; their hands are full of merciful deeds, and their hearts, overflowing with joy, sing a mercy canticle to You, O Most High! I beseech You, O God:

Show them Your mercy in accordance with their hope and trust in You. Let the promise of Jesus be fulfilled in them, who said to them that during their lives, but especially at the hour of death, the souls who will venerate this incomprehensible mercy of His, He, Himself, will defend as His glory.

Amen.

Pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy.

In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. – Amen

Day 8 of the Divine Mercy Novena

In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. – Amen

“Bring to Me today THE SOULS WHO ARE IN PURGATORY, and immerse them in the abyss of My mercy. Allow the torrents of My Blood to quench their raging fires. I adore each and every one of these souls. They are exacting vengeance on My justice. It is within your power to help them. Draw all the indulgences from My Church’s treasury and offer them on their behalf. Oh, if you only knew the agonies they go through, you would constantly offer alms of the spirit to them and pay off their debt to My justice.”

Jesus, Most Merciful, You have stated that You desire mercy, so I bring the souls in Purgatory into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart, souls who are very dear to You but must make retribution to Your justice. May the streams of Blood and Water that gushed forth from Your Heart extinguish the flames of Purgatory, so that the power of Your mercy may be celebrated there as well.

Turn Your merciful gaze, Eternal Father, upon the souls in Purgatory who are enfolded in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. I implore You, by the sorrowful Passion of Your Son, and by all the bitterness with which His most sacred Soul was flooded, to manifest Your mercy to the souls who are under Your just scrutiny. Look upon them only through the Wounds of Jesus, Your dearly beloved Son, for we are convinced that Your goodness and compassion know no bounds.

Amen.

Pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy.

In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. – Amen

Day 9 of the Divine Mercy Novena

In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. – Amen

“Bring SOULS WHO HAVE BECOME LUKEWARM TO ME TODAY, and immerse them in the abyss of My mercy. These souls have inflicted the most severe wounds on My Heart. Because of lukewarm souls, my soul suffered the most dreadful loathing in the Garden of Olives. They were the reason I cried out, ‘Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from me.’ For them, the only way to be saved is to flee to My mercy.”

Jesus, most compassionate, You are Compassion Itself. I bring lukewarm souls into Your Most Compassionate Heart’s abode. Let these tepid souls, who, like corpses, filled You with such deep loathing, be rekindled in the fire of Your pure love. O Most Compassionate Jesus, exercise Your Mercy’s omnipotence and draw them into the very ardor of Your love, bestowing upon them the gift of holy love, for nothing is beyond Your power.

Turn Your merciful gaze, Eternal Father, upon lukewarm souls who are still enfolded in Jesus’ Most Compassionate Heart. Father of Mercy, I beseech You, by Your Son’s bitter Passion and His three-hour agony on the Cross, that they, too, glorify the abyss of Your mercy.

Amen.

Pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy.

In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. – Amen

Concerning the Divine Mercy Novena

Sister Faustina, a Polish nun, received the Divine Mercy message. It was revealed to her by Jesus in a private revelation that the Church fully approves of. The message of Divine Mercy is not new or distinct from the Gospel message. It is, in fact, the same core message presented in a different way with a few new devotions. One of these devotions is the novena.

In her diary, St. Faustina writes that she transcribed the words of the novena as Jesus dictated them to her day by day beginning on Good Friday.

While this novena can be prayed at any time, it is fitting that it begins on the day Jesus gave His life for us. Good Friday is an excellent time to begin reflecting on God’s Mercy toward those of us who desperately need it.

We conclude the novena on the eve of the Feast of Mercy, which Pope John Paul II instituted in response to St. Faustina’s revelation. This is a very important feast, and the novena is an important part of our preparation for the Feast of Mercy, also known as Divine Mercy Sunday.

“The Lord instructed me to recite this chaplet for nine days prior to the Feast of Mercy.” It is scheduled to begin on Good Friday. ‘By this novena, I will grant souls every possible grace.'” (Diary No. 796)

On April 30, 2000, Pope John Paul II declared Divine Mercy Sunday to be an official Church feast. “By this act today, I pass on the message of Divine Mercy to the new millennium,” he said. I pass it on because I want people to see God’s better face, as well as his Divine Mercy, and, as a result, the better face of their brethren. The light of the Divine Mercy message, which the Lord wished to renew in the world, will be a beacon of hope for the third millennium, just as the apostles were in the first.”

This is clearly a significant and potent devotion.

The Goal of the Devotion

The Divine Mercy Novena can be prayed for any reason. God’s Mercy is applicable and effective in every aspect of our lives. However, there are some specific reasons why you might want to invoke Divine Mercy in your prayers.

  • For the terminally ill
  • In Poland’s case
  • In exchange for forgiveness and mercy
  • In order to convert
  • In order to heal
  • In anticipation of Divine Mercy Sunday

So, let us join hands and beg God’s Divine Mercy through this Divine Mercy Novena.
